Christopher the Conquered has always been the primary outlet for the musical explorations of Iowa songwriter Chris Ford, but his latest album The Fate Of Good Man marks an important moment in the evolution of the project, as it is the first album to feature a full band, with Ford staying firmly seated at The Piano. He’s backed strongly by The Black Gold Brass Band, which is featured heavily on the album, with songs arranged to rise and fall with the energy of the five-piece horn section. Joining them is a rhythm section built with bass, drums, and guitar, along with Ford’s keys.

For this collection, Ford has written songs as he’s always written songs, using wit and humor to make startlingly real observations of his environment, both Within and Without. As You, the Listener, are no doubt a part of that environment, expect to find yourself placed squarely at the center of each song.

You are The Good Man.

If you pay attention to live music in Central Iowa, chances are you’ve seen or heard Jordan Mayland’s music. He has brought his talent and versatility to a wide array of projects including the bands Keepers of the Carpet, Nuclear Rodeo, Electronidoll, Tires, and Volcano Boys. That’s enough bands for one guy right?

Wrong. Ankeny Unplugged is pleased to host the debut of a new lineup for Jordan Mayland and the Thermal Detonators, one of Mayland’s more melodic and engaging projects. When a guy who is involved in so many bands finally stamps his name on one of them, you KNOW it is not to be missed.

Patrick Tape Fleming loves music.. Everything about it.  In 2010/11 his band The Poison Control Center played 280 shows to crowds of thousands, released two critically acclaimed albums, and The AV Club named them, “Best Live Act of 2011”.  Patrick has been playing with the Poison Control Center since 1999 and continues to do so to this day.

Patrick’s solo shows dig deep into his catalog of songs. The solo concerts are just as spontaneous and exciting as his shows with the band.  Tape Fleming also finds time to produce records, host a live musical talk show, act, and in 2009 was an award winning filmmaker.
